Boplaas 2005 Colheita Cape Tawny rated SA’s best port by Robert Parker

The classic Boplaas 2005 Colheita Cape Tawny has again received a top rating from the American Robert Parker Wine Advocate. Underscoring not only the exceptional quality of Boplaas wines, the achievement also makes a significant statement about their ability to mature over multiple decades.

The Robert Parker Wine Advocate is one of the world’s most influential platforms with subscribers across the US and in more than 40 countries. In one of its most recent tastings of South African wines, Napa Valley’s acclaimed sommelier and wine presenter Anthony Muller awarded the Boplaas 2005 Colheita Cape Tawny with the highest score of any South African port-style wine.

The wine was also one of only six South African wines to score 95 points.

This is the tawny’s third major rating having also received five stars in Platter’s South African wine guide and being named Fortified Wine of the Year with 96 points awarded by renowned Master of Wine Tim Atkin.

Made from Tinta Barocca and Touriga Nacional grapes, the 2005 Colheita Cape Tawny was aged for 16 years in barrels. It was made in the classic drier Portuguese style.

In glass, it shows a fiery red-brown colour with flecks of olive green on the rim. The bouquet unfurls with notes of walnut, roast almond, butterscotch, spices, citrus, brandy and charred oak. The name Colheita is Portuguese for harvest or vintage.

It is available from the Boplaas online shop and its tasting rooms at the winery in Calitzdorp and along the Garden Route. The tawny sells for R750 per bottle.
