Rediscovering Theuniskraal’s Cape Riesling

Did you know that Theuniskraal in Tulbagh, was one of South Africa’s first white-wine producing estates? Although 13 March on the global wine calendar is dedicated to Riesling we feel that every day can be a Riesling day, especially when it’s the Theuniskraal Cape Riesling 2023

The Jordaan family launched the first Theuniskraal Cape Riesling in 1948, and since then it’s gained a strong following amongst Riesling enthusiasts around the world.  An everyday drinking wine, winemaker Andries Jordaan Jnr, describes it as being brilliant in colour with green hues and golden specks. A reminder of the sun. On the nose, you’ll find aromas of green apples, guavas, and nectarines with a floral background. Doesn’t this remind you of a fresh Summer’s day, but in a glass? This carries through to a fresh and crisp palate with the same flavour profile as the nose – green apples, guava, and nectarines. Best way to enjoy this wine? You’ll be forgiven for just wanting to enjoy a chilled glass on its own, but when it comes to enjoying it with a meal, the Theuniskraal Cape Riesling is the ideal partner for seasonal salads, fish, poultry, or pasta dishes. The wine also works beautifully when served with soft cheeses. Available directly off the farm or via the online wine shop https://www.getwine.co.za at R69 per bottle, or at select outlets nationwide.
